Jailed in the Liberty

I just posted about the Liberty Hotel in Boston but left out a few details and just have to give you the scoop. Can you believe the hotel was once the Charles Street Jail built back in 1851?! It reopened in 2007 after some of the best designers and architects in the city gave it an amazing face lift. The modern hotel is glamorous but has some rough jail edginess to help you keep in mind the history of the structure. As you can see by the picture above most of the building stayed in its original form. The parts that catches my eye every time I enter are the incredibly 90 foot rotunda, cat walks and over sized windows. I often wonder if the inmates ever appreciated the details, jails were built to fit into the city instead of the big block of cement they are now.

The new facade of the Liberty

the breathtaking lobby, it is unlike any other and my favorite section of the hotel

the bars to the left are from the original jail. This is "Clink" one of the restaurants! Very fun!

the lobby for the meeting rooms

this is a dreamy room, I would sit in that chair admiring the window and the view all day!

Presidential Dining Room - imagine having a few friends in for an intimate dinner?

than have drinks on the roof deck of the suite. Ahhh looking out onto the best city!

if you are one of the guest at the dinner party you can turn in on this bed in one of the guest rooms. Now this looks like a much more comfortable cell than ones from the original jail!

Hope you enjoyed this little tour of the Liberty. It gives you a peek into why I love Boston so much, it is always aware of the past but knows how to live in the present!

Karmalooping with the Boston Ballet

Where have I been you ask? Let me share as I think you will absolutely love and appreciate this event as much as I did. Here in Boston we have something named Fashionably Late over at the Liberty Hotel. This is an event where they take the lobby of the hotel and turn it into a fun fashion show/party.

The premise was to launch the Boston Ballet's new image which is a bit edgier and younger than previously known. The ballet paired with the clothing of Karmaloop to put on the contradictory show. The sleek ballerinas danced around in the edgy Karmaloop streetwear. Lots of flannel, leather, brightly patterned leggings and an array of the coolest hats. The girls hair was teased to high heaven which completed the look. Their dance moves were ever so soft and swan like while the dj blasted hip hop! I loved ever second of the mix, it was so visual! I left the photography to my incredibly talented friend Fernando since he would be the only one to do this show justice! Take a look below

The only photo not by Fernando, he is in the background, camera in hand ready to take the next shot!

love the earrings and hat on this one. gray is all over fall '09 both interiors and fashion

Monday Morning Happy

Happy Monday, how was your weekend?

Do you ever have a week where time just flies right by you? Well that was last week for me I lost touch with the blog and hope you can forgive me! To be honest I have been spending more time over at Twitter since I can throw out inspiration quickly in 140 characters. Sometimes I come across a link and update it up over there knowing I don't need to pressure myself in creating a perfect post! With that said this is going to be a great week!

I have some fun guest bloggers lined up for you towards the end of the week, most I am sure you will recognize. You see my little sister is getting married this weekend and I want to make sure and be 100% present for her big day! A ton of family will be flying in from all across the country so I will be playing the best hostess I can while a few of them stay with me. I will be more than excited to share pictures of the amazing day when I return. Please keep checking in and give some "blog love" to my great friends, I am sure they will inspire all of you with their creativity!

Enjoy the new week!

Pink Sunshine

Jonathan Berger is putting a bit of sunshine in an otherwise rainy type of day. I have never been a pink kind of girl but this photo on the cover of House Beautiful has been on my coffee table for the last few months. Every time I walk by it, I seem to stop and smile. It might be time to revisit the pink even if it is in tiny bursts around the room!!

this is the photo on the cover. the pink with the dark wood is so appealing and creates a calming atmosphere. the gorgeous windows and sun steaming in make the space even happier!!

small touches around the room

this might be a bit much but it is very fun and makes such an entrance!

Taking what I can get at Bombay

Do you know Bombay Duck? I came across this adorable site a few months back and continue to torment myself by browsing around. Why do you ask am I tormenting myself? Well they only ship within the UK and I am in the US! I thought I would at least share some of their sweet styled photos with you because if nothing else they are inspiring!

Outdoor tableware! The polka dot glasses are a current fav.

These aprons and dish towels just make me SMILE!

This could be my next brunch set up! I love the layered look and numbers to which could relate back to a lovely menu at each place setting!

A great way to display mirrors and with the sheen of the silver wallpaper it creates such a glamorous photo!

What can I say about this except I want this door knob!!

If you live in the UK do you shop at Bombay Duck?

Monday Morning Happy!

Welcome to a new week here at CreateGirl. Hope everyone had a great weekend. A friend just moved into the sweetest new house and asked me to come out and brainstorm a few design ideas with her. I have to say it was SO much fun! At times, as a working designer you can get caught up in the marketing, working on projects and the business side of things that you lose touch with why you got into interiors in the first place. This weekend reminded me of why I love what I do so much and how lucky I am to have the opportunity to live it! I can't tell you how much fun I had helping out! On my drive home I felt completely rejuvenated and fell in love with interiors all over again. It also helps when the person you are collaborating with has a fabulous design eye as well. So I start this new week feeling so grateful that I was reminded of how much fun design truly is and how rewarding it is to help someone love their home. Thanks Melissa!

Do you ever get so caught up with the little details that you forget why you loved something in the first place?

Go ahead, write on the walls!!

Yes you heard me, go for it, write on the walls with IdeaPaint that is! How fantastic is this product? I had first come across it last year at NeoCon than was reminded of it again over at BzzAgent. With it being office week it was the perfect time to introduce you to this imaginative product.

IdeaPaint is like a whiteboard you actually paint on the wall. You can use any dry eraser marker and it is just as easily removed. Imagine all the places you could use this? I think my doodling could take on a whole new life if this was painted on a desk top. A child's playroom can be a constant art gallery and the mudroom door can be transformed into a reminder to pick up the milk! It is available in all the colors you see below, so go ahead get creative in a big or small space!

Coexisting on their own

I love this picture of his and her work spaces! The shutters easily close over to separate the offices from the living room. Notice the sweet star chandeliers and matching bookshelves. They are individual spaces but by keeping similar layouts they flow from one to another. Its great when you can incorporate work areas into your living areas without having them scream office!

How do you work with your significant other? Are you the type who sit with their laptops on the sofa, feet up on the coffee table or do you retreat to your own office spaces to work? I have to admit this summer I loved sitting out on the deck lounging in my chaise with the laptop. At times my neighbors might have thought I was nuts since as it got dark all your could see was the glow of the screen. I enjoyed every incredibly warm moment of it!!

How To Thursday: Create an office nook

Guess what day it is? "How To Thursday"! Hope you find these tips helpful

When I first started Jace Interiors I did not have an office just a small corner in my bedroom that I tried to create an "office" out of. Thankfully now I have a weee bit larger space outside the bedroom! With a little creativity any nook can become a work space. A few things to remember:

*Have a place for everything, you can see by the photos below many boxes are
used to keep items tidy.
*Use your height: shelves are a great way to get things off the floor like printers and files.
*A curtain can soften any space especially a closet that is turned into an office.
*Install bright enough lighting that you can easily work and it will make any nook feel larger.
*Maximize your space with a smaller chair but make sure you have plenty of workspace.

We don't all have an extra room to spread out in so here are a few small space ideas to make the most of what you do have!

note the sweet pom pom trim on the shelves!! Sweet

Quick Share - Replacing Domino

This Quick share is all about me missing my Domino Stickers! Remember those sweet page holders which allowed all of us designers and bloggers to quickly mark what we were inspired by or wanted to remember? Well here I have found a replacement. These fun "Punctuated Page Markers" from See Jane Work are perfect! Now this will keep me even more organized in my office as I tend to leave pages in their original magazine and not always tear them out. Even better, a stack of 50 are only $8, let the stickering begin!
What about you, how do you mark your inspiration pages?

What's your desk style?

Isn't the best work done sitting in your own style? Desk style that is!! With the start of a new school year I thought we should take look at a few options!

Labor Day = Relaxing White Day

The so called style rules are made to be broken! The rule of white after labor day does not apply to design or really fashion for that matter. This Labor Day I present you with 3 of my favorite "get away from it" all white rooms. They are just divine!

waking up here...

soaking in the tub here...

lounging for brunch here....

Monday Morning Happy!

This is just a quick Monday Morning Happy! It is Labor Day here in the States so I will do as I am told and take the day off, want to join me?! I think swinging on this sweet hammock minus any communication devices would be fantastic. I might even leave the magazines behind and just enjoy the sounds of the birds and water below! As I sit here on my deck with my tea, there is a beautiful warm breeze, I feel like this could be a great day off! Hope you all have a great Monday!
