The ultimate creative - Celerie Kemble

What a perfect way to end a long day than with a glass of red and "Catalog Monday" (or so what Cassie of Coco + Kelley and I have now named it). So when I opened my J Crew and saw THE Celerie Kemble in a fantastic ensemble I was delighted! I love when fashion and interiors collide in such a beautiful way. Along with modeling, Celerie gives us a little insight into why she loves designing for her clients. I admire how she describes the start to every new client as "learning how they live and what defines them"! Sounds so approachable doesn't it? If creating all these beautiful rooms isn't creative enough she also has a gorgeous line of fabrics at Schumacher and a book, one that I can't wait to get my hands on! So take a minute and explore the rooms of Kemble Interiors and than pop over to read her answers to the JCrew questions!

Color Time - Million Dollar Red, Benjamin Moore

Red is a color which evokes drama, movement and calls to pay attention. The one issue with red is finding the perfect shade which will work with the color palette of your home. If chosen incorrectly red can take on a childish or cave like feeling. Below is a fantastic option as it is warm and sophisticated all at the same time!

Do you have a red room in your home? Please share the color name below!

Wood + Metal = Brickmaster's Table Trend

A steel base and planks of wood can make one gorgeous table. I first saw this trend at Restoration Hardware with their classic Brickmaker's Table than similar images started to pop up around the web. The table was originally used in Belgium as a hard surface to cool and cut bricks, with a sturdy steel base it was the perfect solution. Though beware if you are not Popeye strong to move a 200lb table this might not be for you! Scouting the net I have found a few alternates that will give you the same look and not break the bank or your back!

Monday Morning Happy

Morning! Well this Monday post is a bit different than the one I thought I would be writing. I expected to be telling you about my fantastic long weekend in NYC visiting Amy, Lydia & Emily. Unfortunately Mother Nature had other plans for me as she decided to dump 20" of snow on the city. I think it is beautiful to look at, though I would not be as excited as this girl below to be out in it. So my NYC trip to meet three new friends in person will just have to wait a few more weeks. The bright side is I had a ridiculously relaxing weekend filled with cooking, movies and lounging around the apartment. I feel completely rejuvenated and ready to hop back into the crazy pace of my design/work life.

How was your weekend? Were you stuck in the snow or is it sunny and warm where you are?
Enjoy this new week!

White Out!

Lately there has been too much talk of the "white stuff" so I thought what better way to turn those two words (which are not particularly my favorite) into a positive? Talk about them in terms of white accents especially ones which I would like to use in a beach house someday. You know when the days are warm and weathermen never utter the words white or out!!

ahhh a little slice of heavenly white!

Lily Mirror 37" dia - a sweet mirror which is so versatile it can work in any room!

The Studded Nora Table is not what you would expect to see in a beach house but that is exactly why I would love to use it. It is that pop of interest that makes you stop and say ohh I love it!

Bubble Sphere Lamp is by far my new favorite lamp, the simple "sand" linen shade gives it that extra beachy feel!

Maren White Candlesticks are the perfect accents to be used inside or outside on a summer night.

Tack it Up!

Sometimes you just need a creative simple solution to organize pictures and all the tear pages laying around which inspire us. This photo immediately made me breathe a weee bit easier. Isn't the entire work space just so refreshingly calm? I think a lot has to do with the simple formula of dark floors, white desks and only one pattern. The expansive burlap and nailheads add a bit of drama by taking up with entire wall. Fantastic!

Monday Morning Happy!

Morning! It's been a while since I wrote a Monday Morning Happy but from my little blog survey it is something you all looked forward to! This weekend was chock full new clients. The first was a sweet couple who have great style and just needed a bit of help with paint color and brainstorming ideas to maximize the storage in their place. It was a fun way to start the morning. Next was a couple who are moving south and needed help staging for their first open house. The perfect way to end a long working day was by attending the First "Saturday Social" dinner party which my amazing friend Christine started. The idea to to gather 20 people, most who do not know each other and serve a 4 course dinner. It was so much fun and Christine is a truly remarkable cook!

Chevron It

If you read design blogs than you know all about Chevron, right? It seems to have taken over which is exactly why you have not seen it here on CreateGirl but when I came across this photo today I had to post it. We have seen chevron on accents rugs, walls, window treatments and floors. While liking them all, I have never considered using it in my own home until seeing this application. I adore how it pulls you right into the fireplace with its subtle finish and small scale design. In tiny doses I really like Chevron, especially created with wood, it gives off that classic old world feel! This fireplace below is the perfect bit of chevron, one that I could live with and not feel like I have gotten too tired of over time!

If you are a chevron lover, who am I to deprive? Check out this list of design blogs featuring the pattern! If you have been dreaming of using it for your own home and just want to have a pop take a look at this affordable rug from West Elm.
What are your thoughts on Chevron? Have you used the pattern in your house? Please share!

Nesting with Heather Palmer

While flipping through my Mom's Real Simple I came across Heather Palmer and her stunning glass nesting bowls. Immediately I was taken over with the feeling of summer, it could have been the fresh colors or the light and airy feeling of the bowls, regardless I was in love! She has seamlessly combined function and ascetics. Add in the affordable price tag and you have the perfect unique gift fit for any occasion....especially for the homeowner of a new beach house!

"While I call them Nests, these pieces are often described as "oceany" or "like coral". The open lattice work makes these pieces appear to be light as a feather. And, while they are delicate the overall form is sturdy, like actual nests. The process used to make these ensures that no two are ever alike. Each piece is unique with its own twists and bends."
Heather Palmer

Visit Heather's Etsy Store for more info and for the Real Simple promotion of her small steel blue nest which is $49 until the end of February! Nice!
Heather has also started a blog of items that inspire her, it is off to a great start so please pop over and give her a little comment love!

For The Love of Your Home - ABCDDesigns

For the end of the day we have the incredibly talented Amy from the blog, ABCD Designs. Not only does she have her finger on the latest design trends she also creates the most fantastic stationery. Visit her Bespoke Stationery site where I promise you will be wishing you had an event to plan. Look below to see what she is loving right now!

I absolutely love items that have no absolute place in history - meaning that it looks as relevant today as it will in 30, 40, or 80 years.

I discovered these chairs at Huzza and immediately fell for them! They are available in a black lacquer with ostrich, yes ostrich! upholstered seats in a natural nubuck color. The striking proportions of this set of chairs is really incredible. Tall, skinny, and curvaceous all at once; they remind me of a Alberto Giacometti sculpture.I love them because you can not place them in history. Are they modern or are they a creative riff on shaker style furniture? Difficult to place = timeless decor!

The decanter which happens to be my very favorite item at Huzza, is a Hoffman Series B Decanter. Josef Hoffmann Series B was first produced in 1912. It features clear mouth blown mat crystal with hand painted enamel. This technique in which a crystal surface is decorated in a brownish-black enamel, is called "Bronzitdekor" and was developed by Hugo Max only a short time previous to the design of Series B. Designs. To think the first time the marketplace saw the Hoffman Series B Decanter was at the turn of the last century and it would fit seamlessly into and be relevant in any modern setting today!

Now that is good, honest, timeless design!

For The Love of Your Home - Sweet Eventide

Our next post in the "For the Love of Your Home" series I would like to introduce you to Jessica from Sweet Eventide. She is an amazing photographer and whenever I need a break usually around "eventide" I pop over to her blog and daydream a bit!

When it comes to Valentine's Day, I'm much more into celebrating with a card made by hand with a lot of love and maybe a little sweet treat than any of the traditional, extravagant ways. But I do love the idea of a little Valentine's Day gift for my home. I just window-shopped my heart out for this post and I considered choosing all of the following beautiful things: typewriter bar towels or amazing wooden boards or a set of organic soaps or a linen storage box (because I am a girl who believes you can never have enough containers) or even some Eames wall decals from Blik. But in the end, I'm going with a light because I also believe you can never have enough mood lighting and this lantern is charming, cordless, warm, affordable, eco-friendly and locally available (for me). Score!

For The Love of Your Home - The Clueless Crafter

We are almost to the weekend and what better way to get us going than with Lydia from The Clueless Crafter. Well that is what she has named her blog but she is anything but clueless! She is constantly introducing us to new and interesting crafters along with teaching us about art! She is a true New Yorker and I love virtually exploring the city with her!

My home is full of tribal runners and textured upholstery. The stunning, sleek mid-century details of this desk, including the angular cantilevered top, would offer a pop of the rectilinear to a space that tends to hang heavy on traditionalist aesthetics. The end result, the balance between the traditional and the minimal, is sure to create an intriguing and refreshing visual and spatial relationship.

For The Love of Your Home - Sacremento Street

Grab your cup of tea for a mid morning break with the lovely Caitlin from Sacremento Street. You might know her for the fantastic series "10 Things I am Loving Right Now" on her blog. She is full of gorgeous posts with the most beautiful pictures!

Over the past few month's I've been trying to put together an art wall by collecting pictures, painting and drawings that embody my aesthetic. When I came across this portrait on Williams Sonoma Home I was in awe of how Katie Van Home captured the dancer's grace. This artwork would complete my vision for my art wall. I hope you see the beauty in it as much as I do.

For The Love of Your Home - High Heeled Foot

Please say Good Morning to Camila of the blog, "High Heeled Foot in the Door". Daily she takes us with her as she redesigns her house and starts out on the road of business owner! Pop on over, I bet you will pick up a tip or 2 for your own design projects!

The Great Gatsby by F.S. Fitzgerald is one of my all time favorite books. Lucky for me even my hubby who rarely picks up a book enjoys it as well. Another love of mine is seeing book covers used as artwork. To marry these two loves I'm itching to gift my living room with this Penguin book cover for The Great Gatsby.

What's the best part of this gift? It's low-cost. The postcards below, which unfortunately are not available until Dec are another easy way to display your favorite book covers!

For The Love of Your Home - Bryn Alexandra

Tonight's "For The Love of Your Home" post comes from Bryn Alexandra who is an amazing lady. She just took the leap and is going out on her own as a designer! I am so excited for her to follow this passion full time. Pop over to her blog and say hello, she is always working on a great DIY project!

Hello! Currently I am painting our bedroom black and I keep imaging/dreaming of a great graphic throw on our all white, neutral bed. This one from Anthropologie would be perfection:

For the Love of Your Home - Chez Liu

This afternoon's "For The Love of Your Home" guest post will be from the Christine Liu, aka the girl who knows everything about events in Boston! Not only is she super stylish & energetic but she is also the Boston Citysearch Editor. Please say hello!

Ever since I've seen one propped up in a showroom, I've been obsessed
with the oversized, as-if-stolen-from-the-circus, exposed-bulb letters framed in galvanized steel.

As both a typographic fiend and a hyper-organized minimalist, I've transferred my carnal carny lust to these enormous Swiss-designed alphabet structures that do double duty as sleek shelving and storage. What's more fancy than fontage as furniture, especially when you can also indulge in geeky territorializing? Consider the unabashed installation of CHEZ LIU a declaration of love.
