How To Thursday - Office storage

Yesterday we talked about stylish office chairs over at the Tastemaker Diaries. Today's "How To Thursday" will focus on organizing your office. At times it can seem overwhelming, even though we live in a world where we try to limit our paper consumption there still seems to be so much of it! I have to say it's my weakness, I love magazines, books and am constantly tearing out newspaper articles to read and/or blog about later. This time of year I always vow to be more organized with my "piles"!
The main key is to have a place for everything, but how can you be stylishly organized you ask? Come with me as I scout the internet for a few great finds!

See Jane Work is absolutely one of my favorite sites for office pieces. I just found these fabulous Folder Boxes! I had no idea they existed and promptly order 3 for myself.

Above we have the Project Folder from the Container Store, a great way to keep current project you are working on in order. They will look great even stacked on your desk.

Ballard Designs Three Tier Wire Organizer, very stylish and triple the organization! I could see this used on a counter in the kitchen, you know for all that mail you need to put away....yes I am pointing the finger at myself here....

One of the best purchases I ever made was this corkboard for my home office again from Ballard Designs. It is available in 3 sizes and as big as 40 x 60. In my space seen here, I hang all of my inspirational pictures, quotes and to do lists right in front of me.

Next we need to find a home for all the catalogs and magazines we get in the post! What can I say, I love them and have many. I admit I keep a few on hand to give to clients as we meet but others I just love to save. Thomas Paul, one of my absolute favorite designers, showcases magazine holders over at See Jane Work. The mix of all three would create great energy in any office!

Chiasso offers a fantastic metal holder for all the newspapers or magazines! Who said organizing can't be fun?!

Than there are people who know you very well and give gifts just to help keep you organized. My Mom recently gave me file folders similar to these Vera Bradley ones from Barnes and Noble! I love how decorative they look, it could just make filing that much more entertaining!

The picture above shows a great example of a bookcase. There are books and organization boxes mixed together to create a very functional space. You can easily do this in your own bookcase. As you can see, on the ends of each shelf they either have an orange box or magazine holders. They trade off shelf to shelf. Instead of just grouping the boxes all together on one shelf, disperse them throughout the case, it will create more interest!
Do you have tips for organizing your own home office?

Wallpapering with Target

Did you know Target sells wallpaper? To be honest, I didn't, but I am glad to see they have some nice designs at affordable prices. While scouting through the new "Home Design Event" (just to see if there really were any great design bargains) I stumbled upon a few interesting prints.

Floral Trail Chocolate

Solitude Spearmint

Navonna Bitter Chocolate

Sprig Mocha

Elizabeth Pink/Silver (also available in black)

There are a few great options, for an office I like the Navonna or a little girls room with the Elizabeth. Though my favorite might just be the Floral Trail Chocolate. Sometimes Target can truly surprise me!
What do you think? Do you like these prints?

Dreaming of dressing up

It's so fun to get dressed up for a night or at the very least watch others do it! I was blown away by all the gorgeous......to die for.....just must have baubles and sparkles of the night! You know how I love the accessories. Here are a few of my favorites from last nights Golden Globes!

Van Cleef & Arpels - gorgeous turquoise necklace. What a statement!

Fred Leighton - dramatic! red spinel and diamonds

Cartier - wide stacked bracelets

Of course I must add a few dresses I loved....

Oscar de la Renta - perfectly neutral

my favorite - a dark eggplant from Herve Leger

Monday Morning Happy

Happy New Week!

I have just been reminded once again what an amazing community the blogging world is. As I was searching for the "Cute Picture of the Week" I jumped over to Cookie Magazine where they are counting down the top 10 house tours of 2008. This adorable little red head caught my eye, she is part of the Nielson Family. This is where it gets interesting, as I clicked on her Mom's blog I am overwhelmed with this incredible story. Stephanie, the mom of three little ones is the author of the NieNieDialogs. It is an absolutely adorable blog of this mom and her adventures of raising children. Her house is perfectly lovely and she has a great talent for using found items and meaningful mementos to design her rooms. For instance below she uses sweaters her grandmother knitted (and her mom shrank!!) as decoration on the babies crib! Too sweet and very thoughtful!

The real story unravels as I continue to read. Stephanie and her husband were in a terrible plane accident and were both severely burned back in August. The blog has continued by readers "reposting" their favorite entries and what that post meant to them. I was completely moved by the devotion of her readers and their commitment to keeping the blog going until Stephanie will be able to post again. Through these blogs, which each of us slave over to create informative, interesting posts each day, we are all connected in a way where we become involved in each others lives. It is truly amazing. I continue to love the idea of clicking on one article or blog to only be led to another which I might not have found otherwise. So I send a little blog love to NieNie and hope her recovery continues to go well. Please visit her site and be inspired by all of her readers and the Nielson Family.

Have a great week

Hostess Gift to get carried away with

I just came across this adorable Flatware Caddy from Layla Grayce, isn't it the sweetest? Maybe it's all this sunshine yellow talk but I am already thinking of the warm weather and dinner parties on the deck! In the meantime this would be a nice hostess gift, fill it with a couple of wine bottles and linen napkins and you will be set for a visit!

Mimosa, the happy accent!

Yellow, seriously, it is all about sunshine. Every magazine I picked up this weekend featured some shade of happy sunshine yellow! It seems to be the color of the upcoming year as said here by Pantone. They picked Mimosa as the 2009 color! Explaining it as "the color yellow exemplifies the warmth and nurturing quality of the sun, properties we as humans are naturally drawn to for reassurance." Maybe it has to do with the depressing economic news but I have to admit, it is uplifting. To be honest I am not much of a yellow girl, but I could see it mixed in with last years favorites of Iris, Purple (which I still adore!) and Orange. Come along and share in some of my yellow finds, maybe I will just convert myself along the way!

Starting with fashion.... I saw this bag from Proenza Schouler in InStyle, it is definitely bright and cheery! Image via Closet Therapy

West Elm's Tin striped pillow in horseradish

Pottery Barn Painterly Paisley Duvet - truly feels like sunshine

Pottery Barn Lemon Toile Dinnerware

CB2 Surf Office Chair in Bright Yolk Leather

As you can see there are many different shades of yellow out there and this is just the beginning. As the year progresses I am sure we will see the deeper gold of the Mimosa shade come to light!

How do you feel about Mimosa? If you are not into yellow don't fear there are a few other trendy colors for 2009, I will fill you in on them in the weeks to come!

Praising Palettes

**It's time for Guest Blogger Betsy to share an exciting techie find with us!

Remember how I gave you my Christmas list and it included the iPhone? Yeah, well, Merry Christmas to me! I got it! The second I held it, and it was mine I loved it even more. I might even equate it to a new puppy or a new kid (can you tell I don’t have either?)

Each day I discover new things about my new buddy and each day it surprises me more. Yesterday my friend Carlos opened my eyes to the world of “apps.” “Apps” stands for applications and they make your phone function in different ways. Some of them are free, some aren’t, but each one is pretty amazing. Yesterday, Carlos showed me an app called “Palettes,” and I’m so excited about it that I just had to share it with you guys.

Palettes is basically a handy tool for creating and visualizing color palettes. You can create color palettes from scratch or from an image, capturing the colors in that image and use it to build palettes. You can also use Palettes to find matching, complementary or contrasting colors. You can pick colors from anything: RGB, CMYK, or a website. You can also blend colors. After your palettes are created, you can import and export them to programs such as Illustrator and Photoshop. You can even email them.

The next few images are screen shots of just a couple of the things you can do with Palettes.

Isn't it cool?! I just created the palette below and emailed it to myself! I took a screen shot of it, so it's hard to tell that the little white blurrs under the colors are actually the hex codes.

Pretty sweet, eh? I thought so!

Have a great week!

Fireside Daydreams...

Lately I have been dreaming of a home with a fireplace. Maybe the desire comes from the whistling wind and cold temps of the northeast (or the inches of snow which have just started to fall yet again), regardless, I am dying to cozy up alongside the fire!

It could be a sweet chair and book for one by the fire....

or a hearth big enough to have a dinner party around with friends lounging on the floor!

Whichever the occasion, I am thinking warm thoughts of fireside chats in the new year.
Stay Warm!

Clutch It

As with interiors, I am a BIG fan of accents and accessories! Most often I will wear a pretty, clean lined dress and change the look/feel of it with costume jewelry or a great clutch like the options below! These are all affordable and even better from Etsy Designers! Combined with either dress it would be the perfect accessory, don't you just love a reason to get dressed up?!

I love am still loving purple and this dress is simple enough to wear again

the heart neckline and rouching on this is just so sweet. Pair it with the peacock clutch and it is the perfect outfit!

As the clock winds down.....

Pottery Barn

As the year comes to an end many people look back on what they have accomplished in the past 12 months and reflect on the things they hoped to have achieved. It's great to know the slate is cleared and a new year begins on Thursday, filled with new hopes and dreams! I love a good looking table top clock, it is a wonderful accent to any room decor. Here are a few of my current favorites! Most are void of the annoying "tick tock" reminding us all of just how fast time flies!

Monday Morning Happy!

Welcome Back, I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday! I had a fantastic few days filled with family and a weekend catching up with friends I have not seen in months. Sometimes it is so rejuvenating to spend time with close friends, some who at times know you better than you know yourself. There is also news of another baby on the way, which ups the total to 15, yes 15!! 2009 will definitely be filled with posts on nursery decorating and baby gift buying! Congrats Kourtney K. C.!

Can you believe the New Year is just a few days away? This week I will post until Wed. than take a few days to enjoy the celebration! The picture above is a lovely corner I have been saving for just this occasion!

The "Cute Picture of the Week" comes from Mercedes and her adorable puppy Chloe. I can't help but to smile when I look at this picture. As Chloe lays on her back, no doubt getting a belly rub, she looks to be completely pleased with herself! Ahh the simple joys of life!
Have a great week and enjoy the New Year
